Practically speaking, Cambodia has four seasons:
1) December-February, cool and dry; 2) March-May, hot and dry,
3) June-August, hot and rainy; 4) September-November, cool and diminishing rain.
As we go to print in May the hot season has well begun and the monsoon rains are due to start in a month or so. Currently days are mostly rainless and quite warm with mid-day temperatures averaging in the in the mid/upper-30s.
The monsoon rains, when they begin, generally follow a fairly regular pattern with clear mornings and mid-days, and 1-3 hour rains in the mid-late afternoon, making them fairly easy to plan your day around. The monsoon rains ordinarily trickle off by the end of October or beginning of November.
Though cool-dry season is considered the most comfortable time of year, the monsoon season
has its advantages for the temple visitor. The countryside and temples of Angkor are particular-
ly picturesque with their moats and pools full, the vegetation is green and lush. The colors in the wet temple stone stands much brighter and more apparent when wet.
